HOMEWORK PRIORITY:
Start with BIG ROCKS
(these assignments are due the following day and meet my requirements and ELA's policy)
1-Finish Math Homework Page
2-Read for 15-20 Minutes
Next, SMALL ROCKS
(This is for enrichment, early finishers, skill practice, make up and are not due the following day. If your child has more than the math page, it is because they did not use their time wisely in class and did not finish with the rest of the students)
Study for Spelling
ALEKS*
Raz Kids**
Keyboarding
Utah Compose
*Some teachers are requiring ALEKS. I am not currently. I will inform you though, that there is a direct correlation with student performance on end of year testing and confidence in math when ALEKS is utilized frequently. We do ALEKS 2 times per week in class during enrichment.
**RAZ KIDS-students are required to read daily. Some in order to fill the criteria will just pick anything to meet the quota and pick another book the following day and so forth. Though any reading is better than none at all, students that read this way often miss meaningful reading and the story elements that are part of literacy. IF your child has a book on or above level that they really want to READ-HOORAY ! Go for it! IF your child does not have a book, rather than grab here and there, use RAZ KIDS for the 15-20 minutes.
