I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We now enter a very busy time of year. It is also a time when peace and joy should be at the top of our to do list. That can happen if students will use their time wisely in class. Now that students know the routines and have had opportunities to build up stamina, there are a few changes that will help simplify things on my end.
Each term, stundents will be expected to be more accountable and independent than the term before. Yesterday, I explained tough love.
I will not be putting Homework Alerts on the back of the word lists. Very few students used them to check off their work and get signatures. I will use the back side for accountability in other things. PLANNERS are where important items can be found. I will staple notes to the planner instead of corrected work.
* MATH HOMEWORK PAGE:
Monday-Thursday
(If a student leaves the math page at school, or they do not have a math page in their folder, they are to get on ALEKS for 20 minutes. They can complete their math page at school during the class
ALEKS time.)
Either way, math homework is every evening M-Th.
*READING MINUTES
Students are to read nightly for 15-20 minutes. My preference would be for a child to be reading a book of their choice on their reading level. If a student does not have a book to read, I assign books to read on RAZ KIDS that deepen their thoughts on subject matter we are discussing in class.
Either way, reading is happening every night.
*SPELLING
Monday: New Word Lists will still be in their folder. There should also be a handwritten list in their planner. Spelling Tests will be on Friday. Vocabulary is for you to have a discussion with your child or for them to practice before reading minutes for familiarity.
If your child struggles in Spelling, he/she may need extra practice at home.
*CLASSWORK
Most students work very hard in class. Some are not as efficient with their time. IF a child does not finish in class, it will have to go home as homework that night so as not to get behind my classmates.
